A toroid is a coil of insulated wire wound on a donut-shaped form made of powdered iron. It is used as an inductor in electronic circuits, especially at low frequencies where large inductances are needed. Toroids work as inductors to boost frequencies to appropriate levels by storing energy in magnetic fields. They are more economical and efficient than solenoids.
Applications: Switching power supply outlet, DC-DC converter, phase compensation, boost converter, normal mode noise solution countermeasure.
