The PL2303 TA Download Cable USB to TTL RS232 Module is the easiest way to connect to your microcontroller, Raspberry Pi, or WiFi router serial console port. The cable features a USB to Serial conversion chip inside the big USB plug, with a 1M cable ending in four wires: red for power, black for ground, white for RX into the USB port, and green for TX out of the USB port. The power pin provides 5V @ 500mA directly from the USB port, while the RX/TX pins operate at 3.3V levels for interfacing with common 3.3V logic level chipsets.
With separated pin plugs, this cable is ideal for powering and connecting to the debug/login console on the Raspberry Pi or BeagleBone Black. It is also useful for hacking WiFi routers to install alternate OSs or for connecting to nearly any other 3.3V logic serial port. The cable is often easier to use than an FTDI cable due to the separated wires.
