Some flight controllers like the Pixhawk autopilot only work with PPM-compatible receivers. If you have a PWM receiver, this PPM encoder is essential for compatibility. It encodes PWM inputs into a single PPM output, allowing you to combine up to 8 channels from a standard RC receiver into a single wire PPM input for your flight controller.
The jumper JP1 provides flexibility in powering the receiver, servos, and PPM Encoder. Ensure JP1 is in place if the power comes from the autopilot board. If the receiver or servos have a separate power source, remove JP1 to avoid damaging the autopilot's +5V regulator.
The firmware is pre-configured for 8 channels. To modify settings like inverting the PPM signal or changing fail-safe values, an AVR ISP programmer is required for reprogramming.
