The FlexiForce A201/1 flex sensor is a paper-thin, durable force sensor that can measure force between surfaces. It features a 0.375 diameter active sensing area and a two-layer substrate with a conductive material (silver) and pressure-sensitive ink. The sensor is terminated with a solderable male square pin connector and can be trimmed to lengths of 2, 4, or 6 as needed.
When unloaded, the sensor has high resistance, which decreases when force is applied. It acts as a variable resistor in an electrical circuit, with the ability to read resistance changes using an ohmmeter. The sensor's typical performance includes a force range of 0-1 lb (4.4 N) and an operating temperature range of 15F to 140F (-9C to 60C).
An example circuit using an inverting operational amplifier arrangement can produce an analog output based on the sensor resistance. The sensitivity of the sensor can be adjusted by changing the reference resistance and drive voltage, affecting its active force range.
