The ESP-12E ESP8266 WiFi Module is a self-contained SOC with an integrated TCP/IP protocol stack that provides any microcontroller access to your WiFi network. It can host an application or offload all Wi-Fi networking functions from another application processor. The module comes with AT commands firmware, allowing functionality like an Arduino WiFi shield. You can load different firmwares to create your own applications on the module's memory and processor. With its onboard 80MHz low power 32-bit processor, you can run custom firmwares and even host small webpages without an external controller.
The ESP8266 supports APSD for VoIP applications and Bluetooth co-existence interfaces. It features a self-calibrated RF that allows it to work under all operating conditions without the need for external RF parts. This ESP-12E module has 7 GPIOs and is only compatible with 3.3V logic level devices. It will not work directly with 5V devices for both serial and GPIO access. You'll need a 3.3V compatible device or a level converter before using it.
