The DS3231 is a low-cost, extremely accurate 12C real-time clock (RTC) with an integrated temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) and crystal. It integrates a battery input to maintain accurate timekeeping during power interruptions.
The device operates in 24-hour or 12-hour format with an AM/PM indicator. It offers two programmable time-of-day alarms and a programmable square-wave output. The clock communicates via a simple serial interface and supports fast (400kHz) I2C interface.
Additionally, a precision temperature-compensated voltage reference and comparator circuit monitor VCC status, detect power failures, provide a reset output, and switch to the backup supply when required.
The DS3231 is suitable for a wide range of applications including servers, telematics, utility power meters, and GPS systems.
