The DB9 connector is part of the D-sub miniature (D-sub) connector plug and socket family. The terminals of this connector are bent at a right angle, and it is designed to work with the EIA/TIA 232 serial interface standard. DB9 connectors were commonly used for serial peripheral devices like keyboards, mice, and joysticks. Today, the DB9 has mostly been replaced by more modern interfaces such as USB and Firewire.
