The DB25 connector is part of the D-sub miniature (D-sub) connector plug and socket family. DB25 pins are arranged in rows of two, with one thirteen-pin row above a twelve-pin row. Originally designed to work with the EIA/TIA 232 serial interface standard, DB25 connectors were commonly used for serial peripheral devices like keyboards, mice, and joysticks. Today, they are still used in various applications such as network ports, computer video output, game controller ports, and linear and rotary encoders in industries.
While modern interfaces like USB and Firewire have largely replaced the DB25, there are still many legacy devices that rely on this interface for serial communication.
