The CD4099 8-bit addressable latch is a serial-input, parallel-output storage register that offers various functions. Data can be inputted to a specific bit in the latch when addressed through input A0, A1, A2, and WRITE DISABLE is low. When WRITE DISABLE is high, data entry is inhibited, but all 8 outputs can be continuously read regardless of WRITE DISABLE and address inputs.
A master RESET input is provided to reset all bits to logic "0" when RESET and WRITE DISABLE are high. In the case of RESET being high and WRITE RESET being low, the latch functions as a 1-of-8 demultiplexer. The addressed bit has an active output following the data input, while unaddressed bits remain at logic "0".
The CD4099 types come in various package options including 16-lead hermetic dual-in-line ceramic packages (F3A suffix), 16-lead dual-in-line plastic package (E suffix), 16-lead small-outline package (M, M96, MT, and NSR suffixes), and 16-lead thin shrink small-outline packages (PW and PWR suffixes).
Applications for the CD4099 include multi-line decoders and A/D converters.
