These new devices offer improved voltage-to-frequency linearity, range, and compensation compared to the original VCO family. Most devices in this series contain two independent VCOs on a single chip, with the exception of LS624 and LS628, which have complementary Z outputs. The output frequency for each VCO is determined by an external component (capacitor or crystal) along with voltage-sensitive inputs for frequency control and range adjustment.

The LS628 provides more precise temperature compensation than the LS624, requiring an external timing resistor for improved temperature coefficient. Figures 3 and 6 provide guidance on selecting the appropriate capacitor value for desired operating frequencies.
