The 74LS138 decodes one-of-eight lines based on conditions at the three binary select inputs and three enable inputs. It features two active-low and one active-high enable inputs, reducing the need for external gates or inverters during expansion. With no external inverters, a 24-line decoder can be implemented, and only one inverter is required for a 32-line decoder. The enable input can also be used as a data input for demultiplexing applications.
