These 8-bit addressable latches are multifunctional devices suitable for various applications in digital systems. They can be used as working registers, serial-holding registers, and active-high decoders or demultiplexers. The device can store single-line data in eight addressable latches and function as a 1-of-8 decoder or demultiplexer with active high outputs.
Four distinct modes of operation are available, selectable by controlling the clear (CLR) and enable (G) inputs as listed in the function table. In addressable-latch mode, data at the data-in terminal is written into the addressed latch, while unaddressed latches retain their previous states. In memory mode, all latches maintain their previous states regardless of data or address inputs.
To prevent erroneous data entry, the enable input (G) should be kept high (inactive) while address lines are changing. In 1-of-8 decoding or demultiplexing mode, the addressed output mirrors the level of the D input, with all other outputs low. The clear mode sets all outputs low, unaffected by address and data inputs.
