Tantalum capacitors are a subtype of electrolytic capacitors made of tantalum metal acting as an anode, covered by a thin oxide layer serving as the dielectric, and surrounded by a conductive cathode. They offer higher capacitance per volume, superior frequency characteristics, and long-term stability.
