The PL2303 is a convenient solution for connecting an RS-232 device to a USB host. It is highly compatible with drivers that simulate traditional COM ports on most operating systems, making it easy to migrate existing applications to be USB ready. Designed for mobile and embedded solutions, it has a small footprint suitable for various devices.
The breakout board allows easy connection of microcontrollers or serial applications, creating a simple serial cable replacement. The PL2303 features on-chip USB 1.1 transceiver, a 5V to 3.3V regulator, and a 12 MHz crystal oscillator. It supports a configurable baud rate, outbound and inbound buffers, and remote wake-up functionality.
