The second generation TOP Switch™-II family from Power Integration is more cost-effective and provides several enhancements over the first generation TOP Switch family. Extending the power range from 100W to 150W for 100/115/ 230 VAC input widens its application reach, covering devices like TV, Monitor, Audio amplifiers, etc.
The TOP Switch-II family incorporates all functions necessary for a switched mode control system into a three-terminal monolithic IC, including a power MOSFET, PWM controller, high voltage start-up circuit, loop compensation, and fault protection circuitry. The circuit enhancements have increased stability in both discontinuous or continuous conduction mode.
The standard 8L PDIP package option reduces costs for lower-power, high efficiency applications, with the internal lead frame transferring heat from the chip directly to the board, eliminating the need for a heat sink. The source connected tab ensures low EMI, further simplifying circuitry and design tools to reduce time to market.
