The TEC1-12712 40x40mm Thermoelectric Cooler 12A Peltier Module is a simple application of the Peltier Thermoelectric Effect. It features 127 semiconductor couples in a 40mm x 40mm area, effectively cooling and heating up to 80°C. Thermoelectric coolers, also known as TEC or Peltier Modules, create a temperature differential on each side, with one side getting hot and the other side getting cool. This module can be used to either warm something up or cool something down, depending on the side used. It can also generate electricity using a temperature differential.
For optimal performance, it is crucial to remove heat from the hot side by using a heat sink or another cooling device. Failure to do so may result in the Peltier reaching stasis and becoming ineffective. The module can be paired with an old computer CPU heatsink or a block of metal to pull heat from the hot side effectively.
Thermoelectric cooling (TEC) modules function as small heat pumps when a DC power source is applied. They are commonly used in industrial applications such as computer CPUs, CCDs, portable refrigerators, and medical instruments. Operating tips include not exceeding Imax or Vmax when using the module and implementing moisture protection options in the final application to ensure longevity.

Important Note: The hot side of the module requires a heat sink at all times. Do not run the device with a power supply for more than a few seconds without a heatsink mounted to prevent damage.
