Reed Switch is a sensor that closes the circuit in the presence of a magnetic field. It contains a glass envelope with two ferrous elastic reeds enclosed in an inert gas called rhodium. When the magnetic field approaches the sensor, the reeds come together, completing the circuit. This sensor is commonly used in various applications such as detecting open/closed doors in appliances, electromagnetic relays, weighing devices, and level meters. It can be easily integrated into DIY electronic projects with microcontrollers like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and PIC. Please note that it provides digital output only.
