A toroid is a coil of insulated wire wound on a donut-shaped form made of powdered iron. It is used in electronic circuits as an inductor, especially at low frequencies where large inductances are needed. Toroids work by boosting frequencies to appropriate levels, storing energy in magnetic fields. They are more efficient and economical than solenoids.
