- 32.768 kHz time base
The PCF8583 is a clock and calendar chip that utilizes a 2048 bit static CMOS RAM organized as 256 words by 8 bits. It operates via a two-line bidirectional I2C-bus for serial data transfer. The built-in word address register automatically increments after each data byte operation. Address pin A0 allows for hardware address programming, enabling connection of two devices without extra hardware.
The chip features a built-in 32.768 kHz oscillator circuit for clock, calendar, and counter functions. The first 8 bytes of RAM serve these functions, while the next 8 bytes can be used as alarm registers or free RAM space. The remaining 240 bytes are designated as free RAM locations.
- Clock Function: Four year calendar
