With the PCA9685 12-Bit PWM/Servo Controller, you can make robots, hexapod walkers, art pieces, or drive numerous LEDs with precise PWM output. If your microcontroller runs out of PWM outputs, this controller is the solution. You can chain up to 62 controllers for a total of 992 outputs!
The board uses I2C 7-bit address between 0x60-0x80, selectable with jumpers. It has a terminal block for power input or 0.1" breakouts, as well as reverse polarity protection. The green power-good LED indicates proper functionality. With 3 pin connectors in groups of 4, you can plug in 16 servos at once.
The PCA9685 features a "chain-able" design and includes 220 ohm series resistors on all output lines for protection. It also has solder jumpers for 6 address select pins and can be controlled from a 3.3V microcontroller while safely driving up to 6V outputs. The adjustable frequency PWM can go up to about 1.6 KHz with 12-bit resolution for each output.
Additionally, the PCA9685 has configurable push-pull or open-drain output, an output enable pin to quickly disable all outputs, and a spot for a big capacitor on the V+ line if needed. It's an i2c-controlled PWM driver with a built-in clock that runs freely without tying up your microcontroller.
