The MAX485 is a low-power transceiver designed for RS-485 and RS422 communication. It includes one driver and one receiver, suitable for half-duplex applications. The driver can transmit up to 2.5Mbps without slew rate limitations. The transceivers have a low supply current draw ranging from 120µA to 500µA, even when fully loaded with disabled drivers.
The driver outputs are protected against short-circuits and excessive power dissipation through thermal shutdown circuitry, which places the outputs in a high-impedance state. The receiver input features a fail-safe mechanism that ensures a logic-high output when the input is open circuit.
Applications for the MAX485 include low-power RS-485 and RS-422 transceivers, level translators, transceivers for EMI-sensitive applications, and industrial-control local area networks.
