The MAX30100 is an optical sensor that uses two LEDs (red and infrared) to measure the absorbance of pulsing blood. It is fully configurable through software registers and has a 16-deep FIFO for digital output data storage. The sensor is optimized for reading data through the tip of a finger and operates on a supply voltage range of 1.8V to 3.3V. It is suitable for wearable devices, fitness assistants, and medical monitoring devices.
The pulse oximetry subsystem includes ambient light cancellation, a 16-bit sigma-delta ADC, and a proprietary discrete time filter. With ultra-low-power operation, the MAX30100 is ideal for battery-operated systems. It features an I2C digital interface for communication with a host microcontroller.
