The L297 Stepper Motor Controller IC is designed to drive two phase bipolar and four phase unipolar step motors in various modes such as half step, normal, and wave drive. It features on-chip PWM chopper circuits for switch-mode control of winding currents, reducing the burden on the microprocessor. With only clock, direction, and mode input signals required, it simplifies the control process.
It can be mounted in DIP20 and SO20 packages and is compatible with monolithic bridge drives like L298N or L293E, as well as discrete transistors and darlington pairs.
