The DB15 connector is part of the D-sub miniature (D-sub) connector plug and socket family. The pins are arranged in rows of two, with one eight-pin row above a seven-pin row. It is designed to work with the EIA/TIA 232 serial interface standard, commonly used for serial peripheral devices like keyboards, mice, and joysticks. While modern interfaces have replaced the DB15 in many applications, there are still legacy devices that rely on this interface for serial communication.
Applications include network ports, computer video output, game controller ports, and linear and rotary encoders in industries.
