These 8-bit addressable latches are multifunctional devices suitable for various applications such as working registers, serial-holding registers, and active-high decoders or demultiplexers. They offer four distinct modes of operation, including addressable-latch mode, memory mode, 1-of-8 decoding or demultiplexing mode, and clear mode.
Specifically, in the addressable-latch mode, data at the data-in terminal is written into the addressed latch, while in the memory mode, all latches retain their previous states. To prevent erroneous data entry, the enable input should be held high while address lines change. In the decoding or demultiplexing mode, the addressed output follows the D input level, and in the clear mode, all outputs are low and unaffected by inputs.
