The 74HC40105 is a first-in/first-out (FIFO) "elastic" storage register that can store 16 4-bit words. It can handle input and output data at different shifting rates, making it ideal as a buffer between asynchronous systems.
Each word position in the register is clocked by a control flip-flop, with a marker bit indicating filled or vacant data positions. The control flip-flop facilitates data transfer and status communication between positions.
Inputs include clamp diodes for current limiting resistors to interface with voltages exceeding VCC. The FIFO is designed to automatically manage data flow, with status indicators for fullness and data presence.
