The 74HC390 is a 16 Pin Dual 4-bit Decade Ripple Counter IC with an operating voltage range of 2V to 6V. It features four separately clocked sections, including two divide-by-2 sections and two divide-by-5 sections. This IC can be used in various counting configurations, making it versatile for different applications.
The nCP0 and nCP1 section clocks enable ripple counter or frequency division applications with options like divide-by-2, 4, 5, 10, 20, 25, 50, or 100. Additionally, the IC supports BCD decade or bi-quinary configurations, offering flexibility in design. The nMR input allows for a master reset, clearing all 8 bits of the counter simultaneously.
For BCD decade operation, the nQ0 output is linked to the nCP1 input of the divide-by-5 section, while for bi-quinary decade operation, the nQ3 output connects to the nCP0 input. A HIGH signal on the nMR input overrides the clocks and sets the outputs LOW. Clamp diodes on inputs enable interfacing with voltages exceeding VCC when using current limiting resistors.
