The 74HC164 utilizes advanced silicon-gate CMOS technology providing high noise immunity and low consumption, comparable to low power Schottky devices. It features gated serial inputs and CLEAR, with each bit as a D-type master/slave flip-flop. Complete control over incoming data is possible through Inputs A & B. The 8-bit register allows for serial shifting in and out during positive clock transitions. Clear function is independent of the clock and can be achieved by a low-level CLEAR input.
All inputs are safeguarded from static discharge damage by internal diode clamps to VCC and ground. The 74HC164 comes with a wide operating supply voltage range of 2V to 6V, making it versatile for various applications. The logic family is functionally and pin-out compatible with the standard 74LS logic family. Information should meet setup and hold time requirements for accurate data entry.
