Carbon fibre tubes are ideal for replacing aluminium or steel tubes in various projects. This 18mm roll-wrapped carbon fibre tube, predominantly made using high modulus (T700) unidirectional prepreg carbon fibre, offers maximum strength in the lateral axis. The roll-wrapped construction provides superior strength compared to pultruded tubes. While the tube is strongest along its length, caution should be taken to avoid crushing forces across its diameter.
The roll-wrapping process involves laying up prepreg carbon fibre around a mandrel in multiple layers, spiral-wrapping it with heat-shrink tape, and oven curing the assembly.
