A toroid is a coil of insulated wire wound on a donut-shaped form made of powdered iron. It is used as an inductor in electronic circuits, especially at low frequencies where large inductances are required. Toroids work as inductors to boost frequencies to appropriate levels by storing energy in magnetic fields. The turns in a toroid induce a higher frequency, making them more economical and efficient than solenoids.
