The 18-0-18 5A Center Tapped Step Down Transformer is designed for DIY projects requiring high current drain, chassis AC/AC converter, and battery charger applications. The transformer acts as a step-down transformer, reducing AC from 230V to 18V, providing outputs of 18V, 18V, and 0V. It features a solid core construction with winding details. The transformer is a static electrical device that transfers energy through inductive coupling between its winding circuits.
The transformer has flying colored insulated connecting leads approximately 100mm long. It has cores made of high permeability silicon steel, which greatly reduces magnetizing current and confines the flux to a closely coupled winding path.
A varying current in the primary winding creates a varying magnetic flux in the core, inducing a varying electromotive force (E.M.F) in the secondary winding. This transformer is suitable for various applications where a step-down transformer with specific output voltages is required.
