The 18-0-18 2A Center Tapped Step Down Transformer is designed for various applications such as DIY projects requiring high current drain, on chassis AC/AC converter, and designing a battery charger.
The transformer has flying colored insulated connecting leads (Approx 100 mm long) and acts as a step-down transformer, reducing AC - 230V to AC - 18V. It provides outputs of 18V, 18V, and 0V. The construction includes a Solid Core and Winding, with cores made of high permeability silicon steel.
The transformer is a static electrical device that transfers energy by inductive coupling between its winding circuits. A varying current in the primary winding creates a varying magnetic flux in the transformer's core, inducing a varying electromotive force (E.M.F) or voltage in the secondary winding.
The steel core has a permeability many times that of free space, greatly reducing the magnetizing current and confining the flux to a path closely coupling the winding.
