A mecanum wheel is designed with rollers attached at a 45-degree angle to the wheel's plane, allowing robots to move in any direction without changing orientation. Using four mecanum wheels, robots can achieve versatile movements by adjusting motor speeds and directions.
When all four wheels move in the same direction, the robot moves forward or backward. Moving wheels in opposite directions on each side enables lateral movement without changing orientation. The advantage of mecanum wheels over omnidirectional wheels is that all wheels contribute force when moving in any direction.
